First Time Fixer

Season Four Episode Nine

Watch this episode of a family making their lake house bigger by adding a master suite. The entire house was taken down to the studs and renovated. I had never heard of this show until now and is very rewarding. It is like DIY at a new level and done in one episode.

The couple planned on doing the renovations in 12 weeks, which seems reasonable you would think. They take down the garage port with not a lot of problems. Storage is added under the porch, which to me is a great idea. An entire master wing will have a view of the lake. Now that is a view.

Next they pick the color to paint the house. The color they pick made me a little nervous; but after seeing the sample chosen it looks good. The bonus room has popcorn ceilings. If you have an older house, you know all about that. One owner spends the day scraping the ceiling; I bet she got some muscles from dong that hard labor. Doors are picked out to use for the entire house. They found a lady who sells doors as is and I’m assuming at a good price. Time is spent scraping all the old paint from the doors. That didn’t look fun at all.

Seems like everything had to pass inspections which slowed the process down. They ran into some wood damage and had to hold off on that part of the house until things were cleaned up. Just be prepared for anything that may come up.

A lot of sweat and tears went into the house. In the end the house is gorgeous. The paint color chosen really worked and very different. If you like before and after transformations, this would be a good show to start with. If you are adventurous and have the time, start your own project. In the end, it will be worth the wait.
