The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four Episode Ten

For June to stay calm is not an easy thing. Just think. June has been on level ten for seven years! June has never slowed down. June is not use to the day to day normal life anymore. I’m not sure June will ever be able to live a normal life again. June does confess to Emily that she wants to try to forget Fred and focus on her family. Of course we see in this episode that she can not let Fred go.

June is given a chance to testify before the court rules in Fred’s favor. June runs into Mark and not very happy to see him, which is for a good reason. Mark is letting Fred go free. June did not end up in jail like I thought after she threatens Mark. All Mark is concerned about is getting the person that will help him the most and that is Fred. Mark wants to get inside of Gilead no matter what it takes.

Luke wants to get everything back to normal now that June is home and has testified for the last time. Luke trying to make June normal will not happen; and he needs to realize that. Again, Luke will never ever understand what June went through in Gilead. Luke will just need to move aside and let June be free in her own way; and he really does not have a choice. Moira is trying to be supportive, and wants June to go to Geneva to testify against Fred to keep him in jail; but June will not go. Moira and Rita are just ready for Fred to be gone; they just want to forget about him.

Mark is not happy with June when she shows up outside his home to talk to him. Mark tells June it is not appropriate but she talks him into helping her with Fred. Mark goes with June to meet Commander Lawrence in an abandoned restaurant in Canada. There sure are a lot of abandoned buildings in Canada. And how is it so easy to Nick and now Commander Lawrence to get in and out of Canada? Just a thought. Mark, Commander Lawrence and June all meet in this scary looking restaurant. June tries to make a deal with Commander Lawrence who will take Fred back for the exchange of 22 women. Mark gets files from Commander Lawrence of women that were in the resistance before they were caught and sent to Gilead. Mark will take the files back to his boss to then decide if the exchange will happen. 22 women out of Gilead. For no good Fred. Now that’s a trade.

Fred is getting ready for his trip to Geneva and excited about returning to Canada a free man. He goes to say goodbye to Serena and they agree to Zoom later once Fred is settled in. Fred takes his luggage out to the car but finds Mark waiting to take him into custody. Fred is shocked when he is put into a waiting van. Fred is then taken to the border between the USA/Canada. There waiting for him is Commander Lawrence. Fred is then exchanged for the 22 women. Fred is then put into another van and handcuffed. Nick is waiting for him and put into another van where he is taken to the woods. And waiting for him in the woods is June. Does Fred really regret what he has done in Gilead or is he just that arrogant. Poor Fred. No poor Serena. What is going to happen to her now?

June gets her revenge but what about all the women and children still in Gilead? The next morning, June goes home and is covered in blood. Luke finds her in the room with Nichole and can’t believe June was once his innocent wife. June tells Luke she is leaving. Where is she going? What are her plans? Will she be taking Emily with her? Will she be starting a resistant group? Is she just walking away from everyone that loves her? Does June know she and Luke are done? Does she even want a life with Luke? This episode leaves so many unanswered questions. Can’t wait for Season Five!

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four Episode Nine

Let’s just say, June really needs some therapy. Keep it up June, and you will end up in the looney bin. Correction a mental hospital.

June ask for permission to call Gilead. June has told Luke about her last visit with Hannah and he is willing to do anything to her her out. The call with Commander Lawrence does not go well. He is such a character. Luke then ask her to contact Nick for assistance. Now, what is wrong with this picture. June has no choice but to agree.

June meets with Nick bringing Nichole. Nick gives June information about Hannah. I still do not trust him. The entire time June is with Nick, I’m panicking because in just one moment, Guardians can show up and take June back; and with Nichole. June did come with the Secret Service, but who’s to say the Guardians could not take them out. I was having a moment; they are in Canada. Comes to find out, Hannah is living in Silver Springs Colorado, which is now one of Gilead’s districts. Isn’t that something. I’m also curious of the location where they met. It was an abandoned religious school in Canada. Still, I didn’t trust Nick alone with June.

Janine is trying her best to not be sent to a Commander’s household. She got a look at Mrs. Keys who has been turned into a handmaid. Mrs. Keys (Esther) is not happy with her new arrangement. Ester is on a hunger strike. Aunt Lydia is trying to get her to eat but it’s not working. Janine suggest that she will help Esther get adjusted to her new life. Janine ask Aunt Lydia if she can help. First Esther was so glad to see Janine because she though Janine had snuck in. Janine had brought her food to eat and told Esther that her life could get worse if she does not do what she is told. Esther gets mad but Janine insist she will keep coming back until Esther ate. Not sure how long it took, but Esther eventually started eating and Aunt Lydia as pleased. Aunt Lydia praised Janine for her help.

Luke is determined to find Hannah. Luke shows June a file he has been keeping on Gilead and she was impressed. They will work together to get Hannah. Luke was there for the call made to Commander Lawrence and he was the one that suggested a visit with Nick. Luke did not want to do it, but it’s worth a try. When June brings pictures back of Hannah, he is so happy to see her looking well. I would think it’s so sad to see your child and there is nothing you can do to get them back.

Fred and Serena are as pitiful as ever. They get visitors from Gilead, Warren and Naomi. Naomi wants to take back Serena’s baby to Gilead. Warren says he can’t help Fred get out of Canada. Fred and Serena very disappointed that their friends in Gilead are not trying to get them out of Canada.

The end of the episode was a big surprise for me. Mark is going to let Fred go with his cooperation he will give the US government. Yes. Fred will be free in exchange for his information on Gilead. Moira is upset. But June is so upset she threatens harm to Mark. I mean she lost it. She will end up in jail somewhere. What are you doing June?!

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four Episode Eight

Episode starts out with June cutting her hair. She is getting rid of just a part of Gilead by letting all the hair go and making herself feel better.

June’s testimony was spot on. She hits every detail about her treatment in Gilead. What nerve Fred’s lawyer had to try to make June look bad. And Fred trying to defend himself. Fred should not have said a word; because June jumped right back at him. June is full of rage!! She asked for the maximum sentence for Fred. I think she has PTSD but could be wrong.

Moira takes June to meet her therapy group at the library. Moira is being supportive of everyone there instead of confronting her true feelings. She is trying so hard to be positive and looking on the bright side. I really think June is going to turn that group into rebels to help take down Gilead. I could be wrong, but June wants those women to feel mad not calm. June thinks confronting things that happened in Gilead will help the ladies heal faster. Not everyone is like June and not so intense. Moira is not happy with June when she takes over the group session. Not sure if this will affect their relationship going forward.

Emily is being followed by a woman in the library. Turns out she is an Aunt from Gilead that tortured her. Aunt Irene who changed her name to Iris. Emily is not ready to face Aunt Irene; but June presses her. June brings the women back to therapy group for Emily to face up with her. All the Aunt wants is Emily’s forgiveness.

Luke is frustrated with June and how the whole transition into Canada is going. Really? That woman has been through things he could not even imagine. Give her a break. Luke is trying to be supportive, but will need to give her some space. And June trying to jump him; not cool. I’m starting to think he’s a little scared of her. I would be if I were him. They will get their groove back soon enough. Hopefully.

Fred and Serena are so scared, but trying to look brave in front of everyone. I can’t believe they have followers in Canada. There were protesters outside waiting and cheering for them as they left for court. Why? I bet none of the protesters would last a second in Gilead. They are protesting something they have no idea has happened and what the true Gilead is.

Aunt Lydia has lost her mind. She is being cruel to the new handmaids. She sees two of the Aunts whispering and she scolds them. Aunt Lydia just goes off and uses her cattle prod on one of the new handmaids; and zapped Aunt Ruth at the same time. Aunt Lydia is called in by Commander Lawrence who tells her the actions taken were not appropriate. The Commander claims she is still upset because June got out of Gilead and told her to find another outlet. Aunt Lydia, just be nice.

Janine was captured in Chicago after the bombing. Aunt Lydia goes to see her and not sure what she will do with her. Janine pleads with Aunt Lydia because she does not want to be a handmaid again. Aunt Lydia tells her that June made it to Canada and left her behind. Now, Janine does not believe that; and happy June made it out of Gilead. Now, what will happen to Janine?

This episode like all of them is packed with so much intense action. And it’s good intense action! Each scene keeps you watching; don’t get up and go to the bathroom. You will have to rewind it because you will miss something. Everyone has a favorite person on the show, but I’m not sure who my favorite is. All the people have a place in this crazy world we call Gilead. June is out of Gilead but like I keep saying, she will go back in for Hannah. That is her child, and a mother will do what it takes for her child. Each person in the episodes is still connected to June some kind of way. The attachment to June will go on for a very long time. No matter what June does, all these people seek her approval some kind of way. Like Commander Lawrence said, June has strong claws.

There is one episodes left in this season but I’m sure it will be action packed. Hope you enjoy this episode. So many questions left unanswered.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four Episode Seven

This episode takes June finally to Canada. Luke walked her off the boat where she had to ask for asylum in Canada. It was a great moment! I don’t know about June, but I have waited for this month for three seasons. They take June to a very fancy hotel where she is to stay until debriefed. Luke is there with her and tries his best to stay out of her way. This is June’s time to sink it all in. She is still sad because she does not have Hannah with her. She takes a shower and instead of eating takes a very long nap. Luke states she slept for 17 hours. All that fighting Gilead takes a toll on you.

Luke is so patient with June. He knows she has been through a lot and is not rushing her to be close to him. He tells June he tried to get her out and to find Hannah but could not. June then tells him that Hannah is big now and that she knows that they love her. What June does not tell him is about her last encounter with Hannah where she was scared of June.

She is questioned by the American authorities but Luke insist on taking her home. June wants to see Hannah. They get to the house and June takes it all in. She opens the front door and there is Nicole with Emily and Moira. June takes Nicole and holds her tight. Later that evening, June is holding Nicole and telling her about her other father, Nick. June seems pleased with the care given to Nicole.

The next morning, June wants to go the grocery store with Moira. June walks in the store and relieved it’s not like Gilead. She realizes that a lot has changed in seven years. Seems like a lifetime to me and I’m not even there. June starts to have flashbacks and it takes her a moment to pull herself together.

Moira is happy to have June home. Her break up with Oona was sad but June to her was more important. Moira chose her friend over a new love; that was the right thing to do. Besides, Oona says she would not have done the same thing, but who knows what you would do if you were in that situation. Moira tries to talk to Una who agrees to meet with her later. Not sure if I like Oona.

Later that evening, Emily brings Oliver over for her to meet. Emily had talked a lot about him when they walked together in Gilead. The big moment was when June sees Rita. It was a tearful moment for both of them. The group of Gilead survivors finally tells June that Serena is pregnant by Fred. June gets furious which is understandable since she was the Waterford handmaid.

June can’t sleep that night and calls for Mark to come take her to go see Serena. June let her have it. I felt frightened for Serena. She got all in her face. Serena is crying but who cares. June seems more relaxed after her scolding of Serena. She starts to relax in her new life in Canada. She meets with the authorities to tell them more about Gilead and the Waterfords. Let’s see what happens.

Can’t wait for the next episode!! Where is Janine?

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four Episode Six

OMG!! In my opinion, this episode will be the heart of the entire show.

June has made it through the bombing; and she realized that she is not dreaming. Moira is standing in front of her. June hit her head, so she is still a little disoriented. June is looking for Janine. Moira has a hard time getting June to focus. Moira gets June on the rescue truck to take her to the dock. Moira’s girlfriend is in charge of the mission. Moira talks to her girlfriend, who tells her they have to get back on the boat; and leave because it’s not safe to stay there. Moira is panicking now because she does not want to leave June behind. Her girlfriend tells her she will have to leave June.

Moira decides she is not leaving her best friend June behind. Moira goes to June and tricks her into getting on the boat. What Moira does not realize is that, the boat will be inspected by the Gilead coast guard before leaving their waters. Gilead has to make sure the crew doesn’t have anyone else on the boat. Moira panics even more and has to tell her girlfriend that she snuck June onto the boat. Her girlfriend is not happy; Moira has put the entire crew at risk. The crew has a conversation on what to do with June. They are arguing going back in forth. June speaks up and tell them to just turn her in. Moira has a fit.

The Gilead coast guard boats roll up and inspects the team and boat. They had dressed June up to look like a crew member and the inspection is completed. Everyone is relieved. Later, June is trying to get the lifeboat detached so she can head back to Gilead for Hannah. Moira and June get into it. June is so desperate to get Hannah that she is not thinking clearly. It is heartbreaking to hear her explain to Moira how important it is for her to protect Hannah. To me, at that moment, this is the reason why the show still exist – Hannah. Once she founds Hannah and brings her to Canada, the show is over.

The boat docks, and June is trying to get herself together before getting off. Luke comes rushing in; and all June can do is cry. June tells Luke how sorry she is that she is alone without Hannah. Luke is just happy to see her. I’m sure he was not expecting Hannah to be on the boat. This is where all the serious work starts. What will June do first? Will she go see Fred and Serena? Will she bond with Nicole? So many questions.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four Episode Season Five

June is not satisfied with the group they are currently with; and wants to leave to look for more survivors. She is disappointed that they are not Mayday. Janine likes the group, especially Steven, the group leader. June just does not think they are a good group to be with; they are not willing to take the risk she is use to. Janine wants to stay with the group and start a future.

Aunt Lydia is not the leader anymore and wants her position back. There are new recruits she wants to get her hands on them. She does not need to get another group to damage. She goes to see Commander Lawrence. Aunt Lydia lets him know that she knows things about him and that he was involved with Commander Winslow’s disappearance. Commander Lawrence agrees to help her if she gives him damaging information about other commanders. She agrees but wants June to herself when caught. Aunt Lydia, you will not get your hands on June but Commander Lawrence agrees with her. What is she gonna try and do? June will take her down next time.

Commander Lawrences wants to get his seat back with the council, he meets with them and offers a ceasefire in Chicago, Texas and Florida. Commander Lawrence and Nick are still trying to find June and figures out she may be in Chicago. Later the commanders are having a meeting and Commander Lawrence is back. The council considers Commander Lawrence’s proposal and decide to bomb Chicago to give them a warning before issuing a ceasefire. They put Nick in charge. Nick tries to get out of it, but it does not. He knows he has to organize the bombing and also try to keep June safe.

Back in Chicago, June says her goodbyes to Janine and heads off. June is annoyed that Janine will not join her, but she knows Janine is content and she has to find something better. They have a tearful goodbye. June walks through the destroyed streets and it gets very quite. She thinks someone is following her and it turns out to be Janine. Janine, why all the drama? Janine tells June the “handmaids must stick together.”

June and Janine hear planes coming try to run but are caught in the crossfire. They both go down; it’s the bombs that Nick sent in. June comes to and starts to look for Janine but can’t find her. She looks through all the smoke and turns around and sees Moira. What a great scene. They are both in disbelief.

Great episode! It’s really starting to get good. The soundtrack is also great and fits in with the scenes.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four Episode Four

June and Janine are on a mission to escape Gilead and they board a train tanker filled with milk. Yes milk. They had no idea what was in the tanker when they jumped in. Now why would a train have a tanker full of milk, I have not idea. Does June really know the train is headed to Chicago?

After jumping into the milk, June tries to find a drain to let the milk out. Does the tanker have a drain hole? Well she finds one and all the milk spills out. Janine has a meltdown about the entire destination into a war zone, but June tries to calm her down. Janine further gets mad and wants June to stop treating her like a child and be truthful with her. June finally tells her that she did turn them in to Gilead Commander to save her daughter. Janine blames June for the death of Alma and Brianna. June tells Janine that she should have left her a long time ago. After a few more words, they are both quiet during the ride both unsure what to say.

Rita goes to see Serena who request to see her. Rita founds out that Serena is pregnant and is happy for her. Rita is a good person, because after all Serena has put her through, she was still kind and nice to her. Not sure if I would have done the same. Serena is talking on and on about how lucky and happy she is; and assumes that Rita is a friend who will help her raise the baby. Well, Rita has other plans. She visits Fred and gives him the picture of the sonogram, and tells him that it is no longer her job. Go Rita!

The train gets attacked and it crashes. June hears all the guns and looks out of the tanker to see a group gathering up supplies as the guardian lay dead. June attempts to talk to one of the group members by asking if they could join them. After some convincing, the group leader allows June and Janine to join them. Of course, it comes with a cost as the leader of the group wants more from the handmaids. Well June can’t do it. She tells Janine who later goes through with it. Now they stay with the group. I’m getting a bad feeling about this group.

This episode concentrates on June and Janine getting further away from Boston. Gilead is still trying to take over Chicago with resistance from the people there. I have so many questions. Will June get out of Gilead? Will June get caught again? Will June look for Mayday?

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four, Episode Three

This episode starts out with June being tortured by a man who works for Gilead. He is really brutal and scary looking. They try everything to get June to talk and it only takes one thing to get her spill the beans – Hannah.

Aunt Lydia decides to send all the girls to a breeding colony where they will be in the fields by day and handmaids at night but not assigned to a Commander. What in the world is this mess. I thought the handmaids had to be clean and pure like for the commanders. Anyway. They are on their way, she says her goodbyes to Nick with a long kiss, really. They are riding in a van with Aunt Lydia; get to a crossing rail and will have to wait for the train to go by. In the meantime, June and girls are thinking of a way to escape. They do. They start running. The guardian starts shooting at them and kills two of the girls.

June and Janine make it over the railroad track before the train come. Alma and Brianna are running fast but do not make it across; they are killed. It was tragic. Why did it happen? Now the group is just June and Janine.

What a sad episode. June as always had played Nick with that kiss. She knows he will continue to keep her safe. Now he will have to look for her again. I hope he does not find her this time. Maybe with less handmaids to keep up with, June and Janine can move faster. And they need to get out of those red clothes and get some regular normal clothes. They really have to get out of the place. And to think it’s Boston and some part in Pennsylvania before it became Gilead.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Four, Episode Two

June and the group seem to be getting along well at the farm; they are enjoying the freedom they have found. But like June said “they are not really free; Gilead is looking for them.”

The guardian eventually show up at the fame looking for the group. they question the Keys and must have gone back to report them. Mrs. Keys did sound a little shaky. Besides, she only a child.

So June set out to find a safe house for the group. She goes the the local Jezebels to get help from one of the ladies. June goes back to the farm with her plan. In the meantime, Mrs. Keys teaches her how to make poison. June takes a jar of the poison back to Jezebels and puts in the liquor container. She instructs the same lady to give the drink to the Commanders to make them sick or better yet die. She heads back to the farm with her plan in motion. When June gets back to the farm, it doesn’t feel right to her. June is faced with Nick and gets caught. I think Nick had something to do with it; I don’t trust him.

June is handcuffed and taken to some building and is faced with Aunt Lydia again. Talk about bad luck. She is put in a room and tortured because she will not five up information about where the group is.

In Canada. Moira is dealing with the new children that have arrived; trying to found their closest relatives. Some of the children are missing their parents in Gilead because that’s all they know. She gets help from Rita with one little boy. Rita seems to be still a little nervous about her new life; it’s understandable. Luke does not know how to feel. He’s mad. He’s scared. He’s worried for his June. Did it ever dawn on him that she is not leaving Hannah behind in Gilead? She told him that on the tape. Really, Luke.

Wow, this season is moving fast! I’m excited!!
