The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Six Episode Ten

This is the final episode of a show I have loved to watch over the years. You become attached to the characters just like they are real people. This episode was very interesting. I had no idea how it would end.

Boston is now in control again by the United States. Everyone is walking around relieved and happy for the victory. It took nineteen days for them to get Boston back. They are having bonfires burning everything that would remind them of Gilead.

June is thinking about Nick and some of the things they went through together. This is a true loss for her and she needs to grieve. June then sees Luke who is leaving to go help get the power restored. They make small talk and then Luke leaves. Not sure what is happening there. Their relationship has completely changed, which is understandable. June goes inside to see if there is an update on finding Janine. Mark tells her that they are working on it. He also tells her that since Gilead needs more High Commander, Hannah will be moving to DC with the Mckenzies. She smiles about being closer to Hannah. Mark tells June to get some rest that she is off duty now.

Before June goes to rest, she goes to visit Serena Joy who is once again a refugee. She goes on to tell June she could never go back to Gilead. Mark has arranged for her to be sent to a refugee camp. Before leaving, she tells June how sorry she is for all the bad things she did to her. June forgives her. Serena Joy gets on the bus. Serena Joy is mentioned one more time in the episode; but she does not have a big role her, which is a good thing.

Mark tells June that the restrictions have been lifted and that she can go explore her old neighbor. June is looking through the window of one of her favorite restaurants. And guess who walks up? Emily. It was so good to see her. Even June was stunned and gave her a big hug. June and Emily are shown walking down by the wall. Emily is telling June where she has been and what she has been doing since leaving Canada.

She finally takes her nap. She is woken up by someone for her to come with them. They ride to a checkpoint. June gets out and sees Mark and in the distance someone is dropped off at the border. June goes to see who it is and it’s Janine. Then Aunt Lydia and Noemi walk up with Charlotte. Noemi puts her down and she goes to Janine. Janine is ecstatic. June is happy for Janine and she sadly thinks of Hannah.

Buses come in from Alaska. Holly and Nichole get off and are greeted by June and Luke. Later, June is trying to get Nichole to sleep. June is also telling Nichole she has to leave her again for a while. June tells Nichole she has to go make sure all the little girls of Gilead are saved.

June joins Holly at the memory wall. Holly is very upset that June will be leaving again. June tells her she has to fight and that Holly is the one that taught her that. Holly then suggest June should write a book about what she experienced in Gilead.

June then sees Luke. He is on his way to another post in New York. The resistance is going to the border and will start working on getting control of New York again. They make plans to meet in DC. Luke then goes on to tell her that she needs to document the memories she had in Gilead.

June walks to a house where she once lived. It’s the Waterford house. The house hasn’t been touched since the fire. June opens the gate and goes in. She proceeds up the front steps and walks into the lobby. Then she goes up the stairs to her old room. She sits on the window sill and looks around her old room. She takes a recorder out and starts talking into it. The episode ends. This is how the The Handmaid’s Tale began.

I have no complaints on how the last episode ended. It’s nice how they made it positive and a relief for everyone involved. They are all finally free from Gilead and that’s what is important. Hope you like the ending. Now, let’s get ready for The Testament!!

The Handmaid’s Tail

Season Six Episode Nine Execution

This episode is what we all have been waiting for since the beginning of the show. You will cheer and maybe shed a tear or two. All the feelings you had throughout the seasons will be a victory for you. Now of course there will be some ups and downs, but hopefully you will enjoy this episode.

Handmaid’s marching through the streets of Gilead. And the song “Look What You Made Me Do” playing was perfect. They have their heads up high with the look of determination.

Serena Joy is showed running down the street holding Noah. She hears a noise of screaming and stops to see a handmaid stabbing a wife. Serena Joy hides behind a tree in fear. She has no idea what is going on.

The handmaid’s get into a van that will take them to the border. Aunt Phoebe introduces herself to June as Ava. June states that she will be staying behind and some of the handmaid’s will join her for the fight. They get to a stopping point where a truck with headlights is blocking them. The driver gets out and gets shot. It’s guardians and they start taking the handmaid’s out of the van. They are lined up, and the guardians ask for June. June comes forward and they take her into custody.

Nick starts to wake up and found Rose panicking because she thinks she is going into labor. Nick gets her to a hospital and finds out she is fine. She expresses her concerns and goes on to tell Nick he has to stop “her.” That she did this to their baby. Really. No one told you to eat the cake.

Serena Joy gets to Commander Lawrence’s house and is banging on the door. Commander Lawrence lets her in; and Serena Joy is asking what is going on. Commander Lawrence says it’s a rebellion going on. Naomi ask Serena Joy why she is out and not home on her wedding night. Serena Joy tells her she has left Commander Wharton.

Commander Wharton comes over and has a meeting with Commander Lawrence. Commander Wharton sees Serena Joy and tells her he has to move her to a secure location. Serena Joy says she is not leaving so Commander Wharton will have guardians posted outside the door. Commander Wharton proceeds to tell Serena Joy he is going to DC and gives her all the details. He also tells her that June has been captured and that she will get what God has intended for her with all the trouble she has caused.

After being captured, June is put in a cage. Commander Wharton comes to visit her. They exchange a few words. Before he leaves, June ask him to act in love and kindness. Of course, he left without saying another word to her.

Commander Lawrence is getting Naomi and Angela ready to go to a safe place, He tells Naomi to make sure that Angela hears her bedtime story every night. Naomi looks at him confused. He knows she not supposed to reading. He gives Angela a big huge. Commander Lawrence has really gotten attached to Angela.

June is escorted out to the courtyard. Ava is already there. Then they bring out Aunt Lydia. Then the handmaid’s they had in custody. Aunt Lydia is given a chance to speak and I must say she gave them a few harsh words. Then June gives her speech which is also very brutal. At the end of her speech the resistance set off bombs and June is raised up so that she can be hung. Rita shoots the guardian that controls the switch and releases it to bring June back down. Luke is at her side making sure she is okay. Now the pleasant surprise to me was Rita. She stepped up like she has done this in her past life and fought like her life depended on it. Luke was also a surprise taking control. He learned how to use a gun. In the first season, he was afraid of a gun. There are US planes flying overhead. This was an exciting moment. I was up cheering and clapping. I know it’s only a show.

The resistance take over the old Boston Globe building and turn it into their headquarters. I’m thinking they have either killerd most of the guardians or run them out of the city.

Mark and Ava are in charge, them both being CIA. They are trying to find out where the remaining Commanders are hiding. June finds out the Serena Joy is on location across the street; and she goes over there to ask if she knows where the Commanders are. Serena Joy plays ignorant at first but finally tells June where they are. They call in Commander Lawrence with the intent for him to help them out.

June goes with Commander Lawrence to Bedford where the plane is waiting. He gets out of the car with briefcase with the bomb. Before he can get to the plane, the other Commanders come and the plan cannot happen. Commander Wharton invites Commander Lawrence to go with them. He agrees knowing that if he gets on that plane, he would not be getting off. Here comes another car. It has Nick in it. He goes to get on the plan. June is filled with emotions because she also knows that if Nick gets on the plane, he will also not make it off. The plane goes up and a few minutes later, it blows up.

Okay. How do you feel about the plane blowing up with Nick and Lawrence on it. Not sure if I feel bad for Nick. Maybe a little for Lawrence. This episode was the best. Not sure if episode ten can top this one. I waited a week before I watched this one and I’m glad I did. Hope you enjoyed this episode as much as I did.
