The Handmaid’s Tale

Season Five – Morning

Life in Canada for June after getting rid of Fred. She is home with Nick and Nicole but leaves to meet up with the resistance. All she can think of are the events that lead up to Fred’s death. The resistance is ready to do more harm and angry at June for not moving faster. June struggles as she considers what her next move will be now.

Serena learns that Fred is dead and is taken to a secure location. I mean, isn’t she a prisoner. They sure have nice accomodations in Toronto. She ask Mark if she can bury Fred in Gilead. Arrangements are made between the two counties to send him back “home.”

Gilead is not happy to have the body of Fred Waterford back in their country. The church that was picked out is not what Serena was expecting. A reception is held at one of the Commander’s house and Mark gets to observe some of Gilead.

We found out the Emily has left Canada and has gone back to Gilead to found Aunt Lydia. June goes to visit Emily’s family and is not welcomed there after trying to found out contact information for Emily. I understand why Emily is upset but why go back to the place you were tortured for years. Don’t get it.

June tries to turn herself in and arrested. Once she is at the police station, she is let go because the actions were done outside of Canadian territory. It’s called the NoMansLand. So she is let go with a fine. Luke wants to put it all behind him but June has turned dark and unable to get out of it.

Also, we meet Nick’s wife for the first time. She seems to know everything about June; and seems content with June’s decision to get rid of Fred. I’m thinking his wife also works with the resistance. We shall see.

Lots to unload in the one episode but it was worth the wait. If you are not caught up; now is the time.
